Oxfordshire Past 2017 will be held on 17th June at the Barns Centre, Thame from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. The event is now well established in the Oxfordshire calendar for all those interested in history and archaeology and has an extensive programme covering a range of talks from experts in their field. The O.A.H.S. AGM will be held during the lunch break.
The OAHS journal Oxoniensia is now available online. All but the most recent five volumes are freely available under a Creative Commons licence; the most recent volumes are available to subscribers.
Members can now use the OAHS web site to manage their membership details, to make bookings, and to access the latest volumes of Oxoniensia online.
The web site is still at http://oahs.org.uk but when you visit it you will see that its appearance is quite different. In the top left corner you will see the member login control.
All the features of the old site are present on the new and do not require registration. For example, you can see details of the programme on the Diary tab. You only need to register if you want to use new features of this site:
- edit your own contact details
- join the email mailing list
- read recent volumes of Oxoniensia online
- book excursions and othere events online
- order volumes of Oxoniensia at reduced prices
To do these things you need to log in.
In order to log in you will need to register and set a username and a password. Registration requires you to give the email address that we have on our records for you. As part of the registration process we will send you an email with a link that you will need to click. This helps us make sure that noone but you has access to your membership details.
Do we have your email on file?
If you supplied an email when you joined O.A.H.S. and it hasn't changed, you can go ahead and register. If we don't yet have your email you need to let us know and have it added to the database. If you are in any doubt you can go ahead and try to register and see if the address is recognised.
We will not use your email for anything other than identification. We will send one email to that address for you to use to activate your registration. We will not send you general purpose emails unless you update your membership record and ask to be included in the email mailing list.
What happens then?
Once you have registered, an extra tab, My details will appear at the top of the web page. Click that to see your membership record. You can use the tab to update your membership details, and in particular you can opt in to emails from the society. These will sometimes be email versions of regular mailings and sometimes extra items that have come to our notice but do not justify a full mailing. You can also opt out of paper mailings, and then so far as is possible we will send you all correspondence by email.
Once you have registered, your username identifies you uniquely and cannot be changed. After this, you will be able to change your contact email along with your other details. If you pay your sub annually your sub will show as owing on your membership tab after 1st October each year, and you will be able to pay by Paypal (though of course you may still send a cheque if you prefer). If you opt in to emails, you will also receive a reminder by email that your sub is due.
From 2011 it will also be possible to book excursions online.
Finally, please bear in mind that this is a new and largely untested site and help us find and correct faults. If you have any problems please send email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will fix them as fast as possible.
