words & for the express purpose of it being an anthem of our own, surely we have the best right. It is pleasant though to reflect that there should be this little bond of union between us & a people who so much resemble us in the best points of our character. But I have no time for a dissertation on this subject now.

A very pleasant voyage had we in the Princess Marianne; good company, good eating, & drinking, a good vessel, and a very good panorama on each side of us all the way. A good inn at Coblenz we went to, the Giant, & a walk about the town & on the bridge of boats occupied us till supper time.

In going to the post office we met with the 2 Mr ?Fishers of Oxford; very pleasant was it to see anyone from our home, now we were nearly 3 weeks distant from it. 3

Ehrenbreitstein was illuminated gaily, as it appeared for our special gratification, except that the letters F.W. formed a conspicuous part.
