taken by Englishmen for Prussians for prisoners of war formerly on parole at Thame; the ruins of the Katz & its terrace & stained glass, the Rheinfels & its fallen tower & the large blackberries; Oberwesel towers, the gothic church whence 300 infantine voices were pealing a hymn of praise, our rencontre with our German friends, Schonberg ruins, Gutenfels, the Pfaltz castle with its legends & its small confinement chamber, Bacharbach with its wine breakfast, the piano, St Werner’s chapel & Stahleck where we wrote our journal. Neu Rheinstein with its armours & stained glass & hanging gardens, the Mouse tower, Ehrenfels, Bingen, & Rudesheim each & all of those places what pleasures do they not recall. Truly the recollections of them are as delightful as the enjoyment was.

At Eltville we took leave of the packet. Mr Dick & his brother
