THURS. AUG. 10

Another day pleasantly spent in business etc. Bethmans museum has many visitors his Ariadne is certainly a fine statue, but it is fortunate for him that his countrymen are all at the same time fond of good sculpture & yet have few galleries of it. His is the more considered.

At 6, over to Offenach, where after taking tea in front of the verandah of Mr Dick’s pretty parlour we walked to the Offenbach Main lust. Here in gardens by the side of the river is another of those reunions of friends I admire so much. The Main is here a wide spreading stream; a green island divides it in the centre, a large raft was slowly working its way down, small pleasure boats & an 8 oared cutter
